Hand-Held

Hand-Held is a curatorial concept devised by Ingrid Berthon-Moine and Holly Stevenson in the form of an itinerant exhibition that believes in the power of touch. The contributing works all share a common interest in the body as a place for political thought. Each one of the works has been imbued with the artist’s touch and their own beliefs in a ritual approach to art-making. The show aims to disrupt the typically Covid distanced relationship a viewer has to a work of art, here dwelling on the handmade, communication becomes reliant on physical touch which connects the viewer’s, or rather custodian’s palm, to the artists’ hands.

The project received the Jerwood Arts 1:1 Funding Award and a write up in Hector Campbell’s The Shock of the Now The artists: Ingrid Berthon-Moine, Emma Cousin, Melanie Jackson, Ann-Marie James, Khaoula Karaweigh, Sharon Kivland, Paul Kinserley, Anna Perach & Holly Stevenson.
